4 More Days Until the Olympics!

More Security at the Beijing Olympics

The Chinese government has increased their security in the capital city of Beijing to protect its Chinese citizens and foreign guests from possible terrorist attacks during the 2008 Summer Olympics. With the threat of global terrorism and a history of previous terrorist attacks at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany, the Chinese government believes that Chinese separatist groups may attack innocent people at this event. You Think the U.S Has It Bad

With gas prices increasing beyond the $4.00 mark in this country, our counterparts in Europe have to pay even more for this gasoline. Case in point, oil-rich Norwegians have to pay twice as much for gas because of the country's heavy tax on petroleum. Many residents like Per-Arne Skjerpingstad of Oslo spend up to $148 to fill their tank at a time. Read more here.

Will Italian Vogue's All Black Issue Be Enough?

We all know the dreamy, superficial type in fashion magazines: blue eyed, blond eyes, fair skin, skinny. There are a lack of women of color on the runaways and magazine covers because they typically do not have these aesthetics. So, July's issue of Italian Vogue will try to present a positive image of black female beauty provocatively and tastefully by featuring an all-black model cast. Black supermodels such as Iman and Naomi Campbell are said to grace this month's cover. But, will this be enough to solve the racism and capitalistic imagery in today's fashion world? We will wait and see. Read more here.

Madonna and Guy Richie- Splitsville?

It was reported earlier that that Hollywood couple powerhouse Guy Richie and the lovely Madonna are getting a divorce after a seven year courtship. Madonna's rep strongly denies that she is leaving her married husband but other sources report otherwise. People Magazine reported that Guy Richie traveled to New York to discuss with his lawyer about how financial assets will be divided after the divorce. Then Ok! Magazine confirmed that Madonna had an extramarital affair with NY Yankee's Alex Rodriguez. The rumors keeps on coming each day. Read more here.

Is Feminism So Last Decade?

We attend or have attended Smith College. We have taken women history or sociology courses. We have been taught to love our bodies, stand up to our beliefs, and use our minds when the rest of the world does not wants us to . But after years of women's rights discourse, is feminism dead? Kira Cochane from the UK Guardian does not think so but others do. She asserts that women still have to deal with the many gender issues of sexual exploitation, rape, capitalism, and unequal pay in our society. She also uncovers the true role of the 70s women's movement in modern history. Read more here.

"What happens to a person that's dead? They're buried in the ground. Do you talk to them? No. Do you see them? Not usually."

Is becoming a parent apart of your future plans after years from graduating from Smith?
Yes, it is my top priority.
No, I would not have enough time to be thinking of children.
